Global Action Week for Education is a platform that offers the opportunity to carry out specific activities to bring about change and bring the whole world together for the same cause. This year, Global Action Week will take place from April 24th to May 1st, 2019. The Slogan being “My Education, My Right(s)” and the focus is on making the right to an inclusive, equitable, quality, free public education a reality. By encompassing the full realization of the SDG4 agenda, this annual week of action calls attention to the urgent need to invest in the future of the 850+ thousand out-of-school children in Kenya.

Based on statistic from Ministry of Education, there are more than 850,000 children aged between 6 and 17 years who are out of school in Kenya. This may be due to various challenges including poverty, discrimination and emergencies. For that reason, FAWEK aim to bring awareness of this crucial human right which is still not a reality to thousands, and empower young people and adults to bring about change in their communities. The Convention, which expresses the fundamental principles of non-discrimination and equality of educational opportunities, is a cornerstone of the Education 2030 Agenda.

FAWE Kenya calls on Kenya to ratify the Convention against Discrimination in Education, by making re-entry a reality in education system. Join FAWEK’s #RightToEducation @fawekenya campaign and help spread the messages about this key human right with the power to transform lives around the world!
