The Adolescent Girls Movement (AGM) is a collaborative initiative between FAWE Kenya (FAWEK) and the Graça Machel Trust. This program aims at addressing the societal barriers that impede girls’ holistic development. The program seeks to create a platform to support the Pan-African movement, with an innovative, new approach towards nurturing adolescent girls in Kenya so that they are equipped to fully express their identity, claim and exercise their rights, and realize their full potential. The program has established 5 local nests with adolescents in three counties (Kiambu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Narok). 1 school (Theta Secondary School) has been targeted in Kiambu County and 2 schools in both Elgeyo Marakwet (Soy and Segoit Girls) and Narok County (Suswa and Senchura girls). The program also has a curriculum of 24 lessons that is developed by GMT for the girls to be taken through with the aim of better understanding one self and building confidence and connections with others.
The FAWEK and Graça Machel Trust collaboration is committed to long-term, systemic change by ensuring girls are not only beneficiaries but also active change makers in their communities. Through this movement, adolescent girls are positioned to lead, innovate, and transform their futures.
