This Project was funded by USAID through AED since the year 2005. The program supported over 6000 girls in the country most of whom successfully completed schooling. It supported 47% of the girls in primary schools and 53% in secondary schools. This programme emphasized interventions that managed to empower girls through financial assistance in form of scholarships and support, sensitization of communities through empowerment programs, and mainstreaming gender concerns in national education policies and plans.
This project accelerated participation of disadvantaged girls in primary and secondary education in regions that were ranking low in girls’ education such as former provinces of North Eastern, parts of Nairobi, Eastern, Western, Rift Valley and Coast FAWEK initiated mentorship programmes in schools, supplied sponsored students with the required stationeries and sanitary facilities to maintain girls in school throughout.
